This Madison, WI. homeowner lives in the midst of a pine grove. Besides being nice to look at, pine trees can drop needles onto your roof. Over time, if the needles are not removed, a growth of algae can begin to build up as the needles decompose. The algae can eventually damage asphalt shingles, which is what happened here. We tore off the old shingles and added new asphalt shingles containing a fungicide that prevents the growth of algae. These shingles come with a ten year warranty against any new algal growth.
