Wood damage in the left picture was caused by an ice dam. The damage was caused by missing ice and water guard as well as improper roof venting. The picture on the right is from another project and shows ice and water guard during installation. The ice and water guard contains rubber, unlike felt paper. The rubber content makes this material much more resistant. The rubber material also forms a stronger seal around nails when they are nailed into this material.
